I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

As the subject line reads: Who else around here plays video games and what are you playing these days?

I've been a video game player since my aunt and uncle got my brother and I the original Pong console to play at home back in the early 80's.

Currently I'm playing Borderlands on the PC. I'm a big fan of WoW but am short of things I want to do until the next big patch comes out.

Who about the rest of you guys? I know there's at least a few gamers lurking out there.

I play a little battlefield heroes from time to time, but nothing besides that. Feel free to add me as a friend; RightInTwo.

I used to play wow as well, but it took too much time away from me. I came to realize the mechanics of the game, and how the "grind" turns into a vicious circle. At least that's how it played out for me, if You can manage to play only x amount of time each week etc., then thats all great.

Started age 9 with atari. Then sega master system, super nintendo, gameboy, first pc age 15, playstation. Favorites were warcraft 2, age of empires2, Quake3, Duke Nukem 3D, red alert, etc (not really online, was before broadband really got available here). Used to play for hours until I got into lifting, then figured it was waste of time.

Was at parent's place this week and brother was playing that latest need for speed thing on ps3. Always impressed at what they're doing now. Played it for 5mins, then it worked on my nerves. It feels like a waste of time now.

I used to love games. I've played both counter strike and wow online. I'm also a fan of the smash bros series from Nintendo (multiplayer, mates or family in front of console!). I love driving games (like colin mcrae) too.

Last two years it's been less and less gaming. I now hardly play at all. Sometimes i try to since i have good memories from having fun with games, but I grow bored quickly. Guess I'll need something "new" to get me really interested again. I think it boils down to spare time... I don't have much time to just "waste" anymore. Not saying my gaming was a waste, but I think a point comes where you've just had enough. If I don't love it as much anymore, there is no point investing any time into it 8)

I used to sit most of the days playing computer games with friends when we first bought a computer around 1998, started with doom95. It wasn't before I got a hand on games like Starcraft, warcraft 2 and 3, diablo and Counter-Strike things got a little out of hand. Those are my all time favourite games. Played on a proffesional level in Counter-strike and earned OK money and prizes, fun times.

I have also played wow, but at some point I didn't have time to keep it up. You have to spend waaay to much time on playing it, time which you could spend on other things.

Now that job, lifting, girlfriend and other social occasions have occupied my life, theres not much time for playing. But I always find some rare occasions for a game or two, usually with some friends.

The game I usually play at the moment when I want to kill some time is Track Mania.

I used to play WAY more computer games than was necessary. The Command and Conquer games, the Age of Empires series, Battlefield 1942, Civ4, IL-2 Sturmovik, and pretty much anything made by Valve. I don't entirely regret all the time I wasted, because I still find plenty of other ways to waste time now, I just probably could have wasted that time in a more entertaining and productive way.

I just can't sit down and get that into a video game anymore, but I do like to get in an hour or two every once in a while. I'm currently playing Team Fortress 2 and Left 4 Dead 2 on my brothers PC.

I used to subscribe to 3 game magazines, just because I liked reading about games. Now, I don't even own any systems, sold them cause I was broke :D. Good memories though, since most christmases revolved around them (I was 13, got an xbox, with Halo, Knights of the Old Republic, Jedi Outcast...I was flipping).

I enjoy playing them now and then because it makes me feel younger (I know I sound like a jackass saying that at 18, but there's a big difference between 18 and 12!).

One huge gamer here! First introduction into the world of games and pcs were at a very young age via my 10 years older brother. My parents had bought him a commodore 64 when those things were fairly new. It even was one of those older models with the games being in cassette tapes. Then a few old pcs like 386 and 486, there was one pc before those but I can't remember what it was. It did have few games I can still remember, The art of war and one strategy/action game placed in medieval britain.

Oh man, I still remember how wolfenstein 3D, Doom, Jagged Alliance and the likes were the absolute top in the game world.

Few of my all time favorites in no particular order;
Fallout 1&2 (The best rpg games ever, hands down!)
Elder scrolls: Arena (Couldn't finish the game because of them damn riddles! :( )
Doom (played it in coop mode countless and countless hours with my best friend in LAN. Still is one of the most entertaining coop games ever made.)
Duke Nukem 3D (Same thing as with Doom, coop ftw!)
Jagged Alliance series (A legend! Still play JA 2 from time to time)
Civilization series
Pretty much every adventure game made by Lucasarts during the 90s (Day of The Tentacle, anyone? 8) )
Warcraft 1&2 (2 in LAN with a friend, ain't better thing in life!)
Dune 2 (The father of all real time strategy games)
Half-Life (FPS genre has never been the same)
Ufo - Enemy unknown (An incredible game!)
Countless others.. Way too many to list

Haha, I sometimes wonder how I've managed to do anything else besides play games.

I used to be a big gamer back on the PS2 days. Now I got a PS3 for Christmas but I'm not enjoying it at all. I only really liked MGS4 but I don't even have the desire to continue playing it to the end. I also have Killzone 2 which I find terrible and uninteresting. I started playing Dead Space today and I just can't get into it. Video games really don't interest me anymore...

WoW is the biggest time sink I've ever encountered. There are some positive aspects to the game, but to my mind they are massively outweighed by the ridiculous amount of time and attention it demands (the real pro raiding guilds prefer to recruit people with no jobs, so that they can be available to play as long as it takes, 7 days a week). The artificial world is stunning but the content is limited and the scope for imaginative interaction with that world almost non-existent. Here is one of the best comments I've seen on the reductive and repetitive nature of the game.

I don't mind sinking a few weeks of my spare time into a GTA or whatever, but I'd never go back to playing WoW or its ilk. There's a whole real world out there.

The first one? I was thinking of getting it since it's cheap now. I probably will if I decide to keep the PS3. I got a brand new HDTV that looks breathtaking, but I'm still bored as hell when I play it haha... I know I'm not even going to have time for it anymore once I'm back in college this spring.
