I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Topic as above.

Those of you who have done high rep squatting,Prowler pushes, strongman event training etc would know a new definition of pain.

But why do you still do it???

1) training will lower the pain since it makes more blood flowing to the muscles. Don't expect stellar performance though for the aching area.
2) don't be a wuzz, get under the bar ;)

Yeah I do get less motivated as the weights get higher, that's the reason that I severely decreased volume for a while, but I don't want to be a pussy and I do want to continue making gains. So I force myself to do it and after I'm done, I feel good about myself.

I think because there is a lot to learn about oneself. Who really has been able to fully get their head around and master how overwhelming the urge can be to stop during, yet a week later all you remember is the achievement? The pain and tiredness and desire to stop seems like nothing. How can you bring that long term view more into the moment? IMHO there are no end of depths in that experience.

So when someone who is not motivated enough to do it watches someone do it and says "Man, that looks brutal", you can look at them and say "I do that".

Achievement can be an addictive thing. Many of the people you're talking about will have gone through a whole series of processes that required time and pain for eventual reward:
  • Losing weight
  • Building endurance
  • Building a good physique
  • Acquiring good technique

Each success will just make them feel more ready and determined to take on the next challenge. Why stop?

I dont do high reps, it never hurts me. As a matter of fact I am able to play basketball right after my 5 x 5 workouts.

High reps are unnecessary and for the bodybuilding crowd.
Stats:
Olympic Squats - 3 x 5 - 200 lbs
DeadLift - 1 x 5 - 215 lbs
Bench - 3 x 5 - 135 lbs
Rows - 3 x 5 - 125 lbs
Press - 3 x 5 - 95 lbs

I dont want to train because it hurts so much but I do want to train because the results of going through the pain are addictive. Anyway, it is a good pain and not a bad one.

As for basketball, the last thing I ever want to do after training is cardio. Not because I'm a fat bodybuilder but because the training takes it all out of me.

I also like waking up the next day feeling like a sack of potatoes :)
Why are you squatting in the curl rack?

Because powering through the pain is good practice for other areas in life. Persistence and discipline is important everywhere.

Nothing wrong with doing high reps as an adjunct parameter for strength.

As long as its not a pain from an injury, than its all good.
Stats:
Bench: 97kg
Squat: 112kg
Deadlift: 117kg
OHP: 55kg
Dips: 40kg
Pull-ups: 22kg

The deadlift is not dead; size is dead without it.

Life is short and I'm sick of not setting and achieving goals. I want to be able to look at myself in the mirror and know I did something.

Why train? Let's be open-we all want to look good. That's a major factor why we train. Also, training has made me more energetic and gives a feel-good emotion. And oh, I'm kinda sadistic, I enjoy the pain quite a bit (OK, maybe more) actually.
