I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Workout #50 - 'B' completed October 15th, 2009

  • Squat: 3x5 x 265lbs
  • OHP: 3x5 x 130 lbs
  • Deadlift: 1x5 x 215bs
  • Push Up: 3xF - 13/8/7
  • Inv. Row: 3xF - 11/5/5
  • Prone Bridge: 3x12
  • Cardio: Elliptical 45m

Workouts remaining in Mission 2: 50
Minutes of cardio remaining in Mission 2: 2,835

Hrm... squats were much harder than I recall them being last time I was at 265lbs.

OHP seemed easier than last time I did 130lbs. Still a number of push-presses, but a number that weren't as well.

Deadlift hurt. IR wasmega tough today for some reason vs. two days ago.

Oh well, keep on movin'.

I should have gone to the gym yesterday, but instead I spent 10 hours tearing down 243 linear feet of wood fence, chopped off posts that were set in concrete, set 22 metal poles two feet deep in the ground and concreted them in (using bags of concrete that weighed 80pounds each). Today we have 12 more poles to set and then we begin adding the crossbeams and fence posts to finish the fence. It's tough grueling work.

I thought it was funny too... I'm squatting 270lbs, but carrying 80lb sacks of concrete is killer... granted, I'm not walking 500 feet with the sqaut bar either...

I hear you on the bags carrying. I carried lots and lots of sacks with concrete @ 55lbs each a while back. It's hard work. Carrying a lot of 80lb sacks would be tough for sure.

All you have to do is get them on your back, then no problem.

I put one on each shoulder and realized that was hell. Tried just one on one shoulder... still hell.

Crazy workout though. Even my ears and fingertips hurt. Today was day 2 BTW.

Oh Yeah! Projects are fun but tiring. We finshed our basement a while back and built a new deck last year. Both wore me out. Just think how hard it would be if you were not doing SL. Evertime I lift something heavy anymore I think "I really need to find a way to put a bar on this".

Workout #51 - A completed October 23, 2009

  • Squat: 3x5 x 265 lbs
  • Bench: 3x5 x 155 lbs
  • Barbell Row: 3x5 x 120 lbs
  • Push Up: 3xF - 15/10/5 (feet elevated on bench, slightly above horizontal plane)
  • Inv. Row: 3xF - 11/8/5
  • Rev. Crunch 3x12
  • Cardio: Elliptical 45m

Workouts remaining in Mission 2: 49
Minutes of cardio remaining in Mission 2: 2,790

So i'm behind schedule by two or three workouts due to a busy week and a three-day long fence rebuilding project. That was a workout, but it doesn't count here.

The squat feels heavier than the first time I was at 265lbs... or at least I think it does. Maybe i'm just amazed at how heavy it feels to lift 1xBW.

You're still doing well man. I think heavy work around the counts! You could make it a "sled-dragging" event or something.

Keep up the great work!

Great job on that squat Wooderson! I too was stalling on the OHP at 130, seemed like I could never get to the big plates. What finally worked for me was rotating the OHP with heavy Push Presses, and adding progressive resistance to both. Obviously the progress is slower on the OHP since I do them half as often, but it is still consistently going up (knock on wood :) )

Thanks. I was actually at 145lbs on OHP back in August, but was pushpressing a lot and wanted to retrace the steps to try to gain more strength and get rid of the pushpresses. Then a vacation and nuts month happened.

Monthly update is here with slight modifications to Mission 2 goals is here.

Workout #52 - 'B' completed Nov. 2nd, 2009

  • Squat: 3x5 x 270lbs
  • OHP: 3x5 x 130 lbs
  • Deadlift: 1x5 x 220bs
  • Push Up: 3xF - 12/9/7
  • Inv. Row: 3xF - 9/8/7
  • Prone Bridge: 3x12
  • Crossfit the Bear: 5x5 x 45lbs (naked bar)
  • Cardio: Elliptical 45m

Workouts remaining in Mission 2: 48
Minutes of cardio remaining in Mission 2: 2,925

Crap, so in the last 14 days I have worked out three times. Some good reasons, a lot of excuses. Strangely, the Squats seems slightly easier than last week. I did the exact same weigh on OHP I did last time I did OHP two weeks ago (!!!) and it felt easier. In fact, I was push-pressing the OHP a lot last time, and I only did it on the third set today. The DL killed me though. I felt like I was doing it all legs and very little back; the grip was killing me. I stopped at 225 last time and dropped; I may do that again, but I'm going to wait until I stall.

Everything else was what it was. I'll tell ya though, I was sweating my ass off. The bear was killer, and then 45m of elliptical. I'm doing that every time from now on.

Perhaps 3 workouts in the last 14 days has been a bit of a healthy decon (deconditioning break) or rest for you.

With regard to the deadlift, are you doing any associated grip work? I have a Captains of Crush "Hand Gripper" #1 140 pounds in my truck and use that during each commute. It helps a lot, and as your grip gets stronger, you'll find your confidence will go up with regard to higher weights.

I don't, but I have been considering it. Thanks for the pointer!
