I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Good luck! I've been at it over a year and I'm still thinking about my form almost every set.

Workout for 6/17/09

Squats
45lbs 1x10
50lbs 5x5
Doing better but still forgetting not to stick my butt out  . Try again to nail it tonight.

OHP
45lbs 1x5
50lbs 5x5
Felt good and solid.

Deadlift
95lbs 1x5 (Next time triple digits! )

Chinup
5, 3 + 1 neg; 3 + 1 neg
Had to really push to get first set of five out but it was worth it.

Between the chinups and deadlift I felt the DOMS for the first time yesterday. DOn't know why I don't get sore from the Squats but so far I haven't.

Oh man...I was hoping that this stuff would become second nature sooner rather than later!! Good to know it is "later"!

Thanks for the kind words on my training log, X :) And keep working on the squat form - it's definitely not easy. Enjoy the weekend!

It's so hard not to think about form all the time, isn't it? I can't imagine I will ever be able to squat without thinking of all the things I need to remember.
Great workout!

6/19/09

Squats
45lbs 1x5
50lbs 5x5
Nailed my squats with solid form. In fact, got a nice compliment when one of the two young hulks in the next squat rack remarked to the other "perfect squat form there". What a boost to the workout! :D

Bench Press
45lbs 1x5
75lbs 1x5
80lbs 5x5
Worked on a new technique this time. I generally put my feet up on the bench because my legs are to short to reach the floor when lying on the bench. This time I placed my legs on either side of the bench then kinda tucked them under. Worked pretty good and I was able to get past my last stall weight.

IRs
8,8,5

Pushups
8,6,5

Reverse Crunch
3x12

After the sxquat and bench press, didn't have much left for the IRs and Pushups but got a few.

Those compliments go a long way to improve your confidence.

I did the same thing on my bench initially but did much better with my feet on the floor.

Nice job!

Unfortunately for me, putting my legs on either side of the bench is the only way I can reach the floor. Being vertically challenged sometimes really sucks.

6/24/09

Squat
45lbs 1x5
55lbs 5x5 Much better but still some wobble. Thinking I might not be keeping my core stiff enough.

Bench Press
80lbs 5x5
New technique seems to be working well. Only stumble was when I moved my eyes from the spot I picked on the ceiling. Note to self: Don't do that!

IRs
8,7,7

Pushups
7,5,6

Reverse Crunch
20, 15, 15

Hi X,
I've been enjoying reading through your log! You're making great and steady progress. I love the spirit in these forums...where everybody is working on tough goals, and can write about their frustrations, yet laugh at all of it (or simply apply an evil smiley-face  ). Then power through on the next workout and nail it, of course!

Thanks for your comments on my log, too.
Happy lifting! :)

Hi X,
I read that you were tucking your feet under the bench while you benched because you are vertically challenged. :) Have you tried a low wooden box or maybe a step bench under the bench (between the supports maybe) to put your feet on? I don't know if that will work or not but being able to push with my feet has helped me with those last reps on the bench on more than one occasion.

Hi X,

Hope you've been enjoying your vacation from lifting!
I do have a non-lifting related question - hope you don't mind. How on earth can you NOT drive your Mustang??!! Just when it's sunny? I could not have that car sitting in my garage and not drive it - you are much stronger willed than me :D

Hi Kathy:

Kathy wrote:Hope you've been enjoying your vacation from lifting!

Yes I enjoyed having some days off. Of course it was very active rest. I had previously edged a whole area of my lawn with a spade and spent two whole days of vaca just braking up the sod chunks so I could sneak them into our Green Waste barrel. They take grass but don't take sod unless you break all the dirt out of them

Actually, I enjoy taking it out every chance I get. It's not will-power keeping it in the garage, it's self preservation (cops around here are ticket crazy  ) and not wanting to get the beautiful paint job destroyed. I thought when I first bought it that I would take it into work occasionally, but the parking there is really tight and with the wide Mustang doors I would need two spaces not one. That plus the fact cars have been broken into and even stolen from the parking lot, I don't like to chance it.
