No carbs on weekdays. That’s How the Anabolic Diet Works. But in some cases you can eat carbs during the week. Using Midweek Carb Loadings.

Just like 24 Hours Carb Loading, it’s tweaking the Anabolic Diet. Here’s how to use midweek carb ups.

Why Midweek Carb Loading?
There are two situations in which you can use a midweek carb up:

  • Heavy Volume. Weekend carb loading fills your muscles with carbs. These are used for strength training. As the week advances, carb stores deplete. Midweek carb loadings give you an extra kick for workouts at the end of the week.
  • Social Meetings. You have a dinner planned midweek. The food served includes carbs & junk food.

Midweek carb loading is the solution in both cases.Choose Your Carbs

How to Perform Midweek Carb Loading.

  • Be at least 3 months on the Anabolic Diet.
  • Load carbs for 1 hour max.
  • Consume 1000 calories.
  • Feel free to eat simple carbs.
  • Go back to high fat/high protein the next meal.

Birthdays.
At my work, every week a collegue celebrates his birthday. They often bring cake or cookies. This is your midweek carb loading: eat your piece of cake, even two. Next meal go back to high fat/high protein until the weekend.

Training with Rambo V.
You’ll be training with a friend on Friday. You suspect him to have planned lots of reps. Do a Midweek Carb Loading. No chance of having to give up because you’re out of carbs.

Example of Midweek Carb Loading.
This is what I had two weeks ago on Wednesday morning:

  • Raisins: 200g
  • Oats: 100g
  • Rice: 100g
  • Bread: 200g
  • Jam: 50g

Total kcals: close to 1500. Next meal was high fat/high protein. This is very important. You must go back to high fat/high meat the next meal, otherwise you’ll get out of fat burning mode.

I have only been on the AD since 7/11/07. My birthday is this coming Monday. The plan all along was to not carb up M - F. How can I handle the fact that my birthday lands on a weekday and I have been on the AD for way less than 3 months? Thanks for any ideas.

    I picked a hell of a time to try AD, didn’t I?

    JH,

Well it’s never a good time to start a diet anyway ;)

I suppose you have done a carb up on July 14/15? (which wouldn’t be optimal because you were only 3 days no carbs)

    You could do this:
    -July 22/23: 48h carbup
    -July 24/28: no carbs
-July 29: 24h carb loading (go heavy)
    -July 30/onwards: 5days off - 2 days carb loading

Or else you just quit the Anabolic Diet & wait until july 30th to start 5days on/2days off.

Thanks! I know, I know: why did you start in the middle of the week? I saw an article on AD on muscle with attitude over on T-Nation on a Wednesday, the same day it was posted. I admit that I went in head first without thinking about my timing.
