I first went on the Anabolic Diet one year ago for two reasons:

  • It is the most discussed topic on T-nation ever; and
  • It would help me getting stronger, building muscle & losing fat

You can eat whatever you want on the Anabolic Diet, that is what made me adhere to it since. I’ve been on several diets during the last years. So when I find one that really works, I tell everyone I can about it. That’s why I happily accepted the Anabolic Diet as sponsor on StrongLifts.com

Here are 10 reasons why I think you should get on the Anabolic Diet as well:

1. Bigger Muscles.
The Anabolic Diet maximizes the production of your 3 muscle building hormones:

  • Testosterone
  • Growth Hormone
  • Insulin

At the same time, these hormones decreases the muscle breaking activity in your body. The end result? Bigger muscles.

2. Less Fat
. The more fat you give your body, the less fat it stores. On the Anabolic Diet, you’ll consume high amounts of fat.

  • You’ll become a fat burning machine: fat will be used for energy
  • No more fat pockets: you’ll get rid of the love handles, double chin, …

With the Anabolic Diet you’ll be at 10% body fat, year round.

3. More Strength
. You’ll feel like an animal on the Anabolic Diet. Stronger than ever:

  • Increased testosterone levels
  • Bigger muscles means more strength
  • Lower body fat equals increased lean body mass

The Anabolic Diet is for those who want to be strong, without looking like a fato.

4. Better Health
. The Anabolic Diet includes a high consumption of meat, fats, veggies & fruit. Some health benefits include:

  • Decreased cholesterol & triglyceride levels
  • Decreased plaque buildup in arteries
  • Controlled insulin levels
  • Less food allergies, less acne

Perform a blood test before starting this diet. You’ll see the difference.

5. More Energy
. Those who switch to the Anabolic Diet always report feeling more energized:

  • Jumping out of bed in the morning, waking up full
  • Better recovery from workouts & daily activities
  • No more blood sugar crashes
  • Less irritability, no more mood swings
  • No more heaviness after eating
  • And much more

Another advantage of increasing testosterone production & controlling insuline.

6. You Can Eat What You Want
. With the Anabolic Diet, there’s not one food that you will have to give up.

  • During the week: high amounts of meat, fat, veggies & fruit
  • Weekend: as much carbs as you can handle

It’s not what you eat that counts, it’s when.

7. No Hunger
. You’ll never feel hungry on the Anabolic Diet, even when cutting weight:

  • Fat satiates
  • Fat delays hunger
  • You’ll be eating more calories than before
  • You’ll need to remind yourself to eat most of the time

Feeling hungry is no fun. Enter the Anabolic Diet.

8. No More Bloating
. The Anabolic Diet is a natural diuretic. During the first weeks, you’ll notice a loss of weight. Water. High carbs diets are linked to water retention. With the Anabolic Diet, you’ll no more have a bloated look. You’ll look better.

9. It’s Cheaper
. You’ll cut expenses on the Anabolic Diet:

  • No need to buy low fat meat: you need the fat
  • No more whey: you’ll get plenty of protein from your diet
  • No essential fatty acids supplementation

More money in your pocket, another benefit of the Anabolic Diet.

10. No More Junk Cravings
. The longer you eat healthy, the more you’ll get adverse effects from eating junk food. Eating too much junk food in the weekend will make you want to reach the couch.

After a few months on the Anabolic Diet, you’ll say goodbye to the junk cravings forever.

Why are you talking about the anabolic diet when you are promoting the metabolic diet ?

  2. on 02 Jun 2007 at 9:17 pmMehdi

    Good question Wazzup.

The Anabolic Diet is the Dr. Di Pasquale’s diet proposed in 1995. Since then, several other versions have been released:
    * The Anabolic Solution: same as Anabolic Diet with extra advertising
    * The Metabolic Diet: fully referenced work, appealing to general public.

If you can find the original Anabolic Diet: go for it. Amazon.com doesn’t sell it. The Metabolic Diet has the Anabolic Diet included.

Hope this clears up the situation. I’d prefer to give a direct link to the Anabolic Diet, but it’s hard to find any on a reputable site like Amazon.com

If you find a link where you can buy the Anabolic Solution, feel free to post it here.

    Thank for the question.

    Thanks for sharing Rob.

It’s one of the better diet for strength/mass/lower body fat for sure.

Will take a look at your blog. Thanks for the link.

I have this book and I must say it is worth it, worth it 100%.
Excess carbs are not a lifters/athletes friend at all.

Good to hear other people like the Anabolic Diet.

    Thanks for sharing Jay.

one thing I really like about it is that it allows you to find a carbohydrate set point that will allow you to eat carbs at an optimal level for your body, without ingesting too much to cause insulin spikes, fat retention and carb-coma. :)

Not to mention that DiPasquale is one of us and to read this book is to know that he put research and time behind it.

  10. on 06 Jun 2007 at 8:55 amMehdi

Yep, after some time you can even do a mid-week carb up. Useful if your training consists of plenty of high intensity + high volume work.

Dipasquale is a Powerlifting Champion with an MD & biochem degree. Definitely knows what he talks about.

Thank your for the comment Jay.

Esp for me since I play rugby at a high level I often will have to carb up the day before a game.

  12. on 07 Jun 2007 at 1:09 amMehdi

I suspected you were into rugby from your myspace picture ;)

    Thanks for sharing Jay.

    hahahaha thanks man…
actually after the fall I will be “retiring” to get back into fighting and strongman events.
your body can only take so much contact like that until you get tired of the morning after… in fact the week after.

  14. on 07 Jun 2007 at 11:22 amMehdi

Never played rugby. But I guess the contact can be very stressful on your system indeed.

Good luck with the strongman & fighting ;)

I have a question about the Anabolic Diet. How do you incorporate your pre and post workout shakes into this diet? How about fast carbs? It is a fact that fast carbs during and after your workout have a strong anabolic effect. But this diet excludes carbs during the week. So how about that?

  16. on 09 Jun 2007 at 1:56 pmMehdi

    Ruben,

I use meals as pre & post workout nutrition. Eggs with red meat pre workout, post workout red meat with veggies & olive oil.

Shakes can also be used if it’s easier for you. Always Protein + Fat combination.
    -Whey + Flax seed
    -Whey + olive oil
-Whey + heavy whipping cream (40% kind)

About the anabolic effect with fast carbs. The rules are different on the Anabolic Diet. Check this post: http://stronglifts.com/why-the-anabolic-diet-works-how/ for an understanding of thow the A.D. works.

Great question Ruben. Pre & Post workout nutrition on the Anabolic Diet will be the topic of next articles. I’m writing the articles at this moment ;)

Hey, is this diet still optimal for someone who is only doing the begging 5×5 workout or is this for people doing more advanced workouts? I’m still a teen and not sure my body can handle this intense change. Also, I am an active soccer player and the lack of carbs seems like something that will make playing a lot harder.
