I’m 49 y old w a dad bod. I’ve been a semi athlete most my life. I jumped onto programs only to peter out soon enough with little to show for it. I’ve an expensive indoor bike, a bunch of old dvds promising to make me shredded and pdfs in my phone full of all kinds of workouts (all just half done and again not much to show for it) I’ve heard of Stronglifts for a while and thought that it too can probably end up in the collections. Not true!!! The ease of the app and the program itself is exactly what I need. No extra bells and whistles but pure meat and potatoes. AND it is structured perfectly with just the right amount of intensity that honestly keeps me wanting to come back for more. The duration and choices of exercises are perfect for my busy schedule and by now my muscle soreness is predictable and easy enough to recover from that I can jump into the next workout w no problem. Also my clothes are fitting a bit better and my posture is on point! I feel great. 5 stars for sure.

I love this app and have recommended it to multiple people. If you want to really increase your strength, overall fitness and balance (with added benefit of looking better), this is your app. I’ve been weightlifting for 30 years and this is the program I come back to anytime I’ve been injured, coming off a running cycle or to switch up my workouts to focus on strength increases. The plan is simple but the app makes it very efficient and easy to track the progress you make. And you will make lots of progress. Give this a try for at least 8 weeks and then reflect back on how far you’ve come and you’ll be blown away. I’d also recommend reading the long explanation of the program on the author’s website. It’s very helpful and you’ll find yourself more motivated the better you understand the science behind why this works and avoid a lot of common missteps people always make when they pursue this without expert advice and a disciplined plan.

I did Stronglifts 5×5 before years ago before my fitness life took a detour into crossfit. But recently I’ve concluded that for most schedules and budgets Stronglifts is all that you really need. It’s blindingly simple, easy to start and stick to, and most importantly IT WORKS. Now, in the past I tracked my progress with a clunky spreadsheet on the phone. It was fine but not ideal. This app has transformed that. There is no typing involved. No planning ahead. Just show up to your gym, open the app, and start checking off completed sets. If you’re a novice let me tell you: exercise is actually the easiest part of working out. The hard part is getting started and then sticking with it. At least for me, this app has made those challenges way easier to overcome. Oh and always remember to warm up. The pro version of this app will help you do that too and if you’re already paying for a gym membership the additional cost should be basically negligible.

Overall great app and I love the Apple Watch app too. If I have my phone in hand I will get distracted by other things during a workout. It’s best for me to review the lifts, start my workout and music, put the phone down, and run the workout on my watch. I won my first amateur weightlifting competition at age 44 after using 5×5 for about a year. This isn’t an exercise app, this is a training program that increases weight on each workout until you finally fail some reps, then pauses until you can can complete all reps, and increases the weight again. The library of videos with proper form are amazing training tools. It’s highly customizable.

I have tried many workout routines. I was always trying to find a good fit. I like the 3 day a week setup of Stronglifts 5×5. The 45-90min workouts are not too intense, but are tough because of the heavy weight. At the end of the 3rd month I was benching more than my old max weight for 5 sets of 5. Not many programs are that fast I tried the 4 day split for a long time and made those kinds of gains in twice the amount of time. So I like the efficiency of the Stronglifts program and the app is so easy to use anyone can do it

Ive tried a lot of programs—personalized coaching, Crossfit style, bodybuilding style. Ive found that Stronglifts 5×5 is the sweet spot in terms of results and time spent in the gym. I got a full time job and I cant spent hours on the gym. I got the SL app, follow the program. No more thinking. No more trying what movements I did last time and how much weight I did. Why do I trust SL so much? Ive trained under coaches with sports science degrees before and their advice basically boiled down to do heavy compound lifts. Exactly what SL 5×5 makes you do. Stronglifts 5×5 is the most complete, most effective, easiest to follow, and most rewarding workout plan I’ve ever used. At it’s core are the fundamentals. The fundamentals are exercises considered to be fundamental because they have always worked to build strength, and always will. Heavy weights and basic compound movements are fundamental to strength. Every exercise is compound in nature, maximizing the effectiveness and minimizing the time investment. This program can easily be done in a weight-based home gym environment with minimal investment for ease and safety. I have not experienced any weight lifting related injuries in the 2-3 years I’ve been using it. The app is fabulous. Great guide and tracking tool. Very well done, and Medhi is continuously improving it. Under an hour for everything 3 times/week. I strongly recommend StrongLifts 5×5.

This program (and the app) are so empowering. I’m astonished by the improvements I’m seeing and feeling from such short and simple workouts. My flexibility is noticeably improved. My posture is better. A bad shoulder no longer bothers me. My squat is deeper and I can now get up from a squat easily. And I am growing stronger. I am a 60 year old woman with osteoporosis. I am pretty active but also pretty out of shape and about 25 pounds over weight. I got a little wake up call when I pulled my back out on Thanksgiving and could barely walk. After I knew I needed to get back to regular exercise and lose some weight to prevent that or worse from happening again. I also knew, of course, that weight lifting could help with the osteoporosis but was kind of overwhelmed about where to start. There is so much confusing/conflicting information out there. I’m honestly not sure how I stumbled on this App/program but I’m so glad I did. I love going to the gym with a plan. I love that these workouts are very efficient. I love seeing my weights going up. I am eager to continue and can’t wait to see my results in a few more months. Thanks so much.

I had been training for four years, doing CF with intermittent periods of mostly bodyweight stuff. Never consistently did progressive overload but I could squat about 120kg, deadlift 140kg and bench about 80kg. I started Stronglifts in September 2021, and followed strictly for 12 weeks. I tested my 1 RM and I got 155kgs for Squat, 175 for Deadlift, 100kgs for bench and 63 kg for OH press, at 32 years old, 170cm tall and 81kgs. I feel it was an off day and I could maybe push more if I was feeling better, but overall I’m quite happy. Now I switched to Madcow because recovery was getting hard with the weights I was moving. I’m slowly building back to big weights. I should start hitting new PRs in a couple of weeks!

I just got back into the gym for the first time in years, and this app is my training partner. Is Stronglifts perfect? I don’t know, I’ve heard the critics; all I know is that am seeing results despite only doing it twice a week and look forward to going to three times as recommended. My posture is better, I feel more confident, and I definitely see serious results after a few months (as does my lady!). Give it a shot! Edit: doing it properly 3 days a week, and it’s even better

35 y/o male who hasn’t lifted a weight since high school. Like many people, I was afraid to lift – to do squats, deadlifts, etc. This app gave me the confidence to get to work with a solid, simple routine and it makes lifting fun. I was first hesitant to follow such a simple workout. Who gets stronger lifting three times a week with a total 25 reps of each exercises ? This girl ! I am 135 and was able to squat 200 and deadlift 220!

I have to say this has been the fitness app I have seen the best results from. I’m recovering from shoulder and knee surgery. I’ve trained in and off for years. Mainly off for the last few years with young kids at home. Biggest issue has been consistency and programming historically and excuses. The beauty have found in the Stronglifts app is there is no distraction, thinking required, or opportunity to bug out. You do what it says until you fail and then you know you have progressed. Then you do what it says and to get past that and you progress. Either way you just keep progressing.

I’ve been lost for direction for years since focussing purely on weight loss and then I came across Stronglifts 5×5 and it’s honestly amazing. Being one of the few logging apps that has a free version and a lifetime payment option which also does the plate maths for me is a lifesaver. Hands down the best weight tracking app I’ve ever used. My whole family uses it and it’s easy to adjust to fit whatever your weightlifting goals are. For the program itself, I was extremely skeptical at first. I have been lifting weights for ten years, but I was stuck on my bench and squat weights for months, so I was ready to try just about anything. I was five weeks in and could already tell this program was going to be different. My strength has increased, my size has increased, and my form has drastically improved! The app definitely makes the program easier to follow. Plus it’s super motivating to me to see my progress that it tracks for me. When you get the app, you’ll get informative e-mails daily from Mehdi with insightful tips and research based knowledge on why the program works, how to stick with it and more. These e-mails help keep you from overthinking and making the program complex or trying to go to fast. My strength has increased, my overall health is better and it just works. The app has images of how to load the bar quickly so no brain work to try to figure out which plates to load. Each movement has a quick reference for form. This is by far the best app I have ever used to workout. I purchased Pro Lifetime and it is worth every penny. I love how everything is calculated for you. I don’t have to keep writing my progress down. Plus switching over to the Madcow workout has been awesome. I am actually excited to work out again. On top of that you can get Mehdi’s daily emails that he goes into great detail answering questions. You have to get this, you won’t regret it.

Awesome program. Helps with my depression. Every week seeing gains of 5 lbs. I feel better, sleep better. Helps with my self confidence and work performance and changing my life. Weekly emails help. Almost a life philosophy of keep it simple and realize huge gains with a simple program for $40 a year. I was using a personal trainer at Lifetime who sucked and never improved.

I haven’t lifted in over a decade. This is a great way for me to get back to exercising. Easy to record workouts, easy to adjust weights on exercises that aren’t progressing as fast as the default in the app. Timer is helpful in completing workouts in a timely manner, while not rushing. A few weeks in, and I feel stronger and am making gains.

This is app is amazing, it’s like having a personal trainer in your pocket. This is my first attempt at a workout program and the app makes the process easy and fun. I just show up and it tells me the exercise and the weight. That’s it! It takes care of everything else i.e. journalling, HowTos etc. Lastly, the developer is awesome. I reached out about some exercise questions and he immediately responded with brilliant advice and direction.

It is as convenient and thoughtful as no other gym apps for their uses. I had doubts purchasing a single-program app, but I never regret that decision. Worth every dollar. Many thanks for separate weights/body units – I am a “metric” guy who attends “imperial” gym. The most important feature, though, is plates calculator – cannot live without it.

At age 68, this workout is perfect for maintaining that all important senior metric: STRENGTH. The app really makes keeping track of things very easy. It tracks your weights, when to increase, has a history of everything. It’s nice seeing those go up every week. Start light though, it’s easy at first, very difficult later. Perfect workout/app for seniors. Thanks Mehdi for developing the app, I can’t recommend this enough. Mehdi even emails you daily and responds with recommendations! wow.

Started recently after a mate got me into it. This app is genuinely 5 stars. All the little details in the app are covered off so well, developer has really done a thorough job. Flexibility to change things, updates, easily contactable, FAQs emailed out if you want, no spam, the science it’s backed up with includes references, yea, just has every base covered, thoroughly thoroughly reccomend, I am really progressing my lifting by using this, can’t applaud it enough.

I haven’t worked out in years. I have management-type positions for work. Lately, my body has felt like it’s deteriorating. I used to be an athlete, but now I am fat and out of shape. The simplicity of three lifts per session is deceiving. As the weeks progress your body responds and your strength increases, much more efficient than any fad workout. I mix in rowing on the non-lifting days for cardio and total body fitness. Great way to to keep my 55+ year old body going strong.

As a 64-year-old soccer referee, I needed a workout regimen that would improve my strength and keep me fit without affecting my ability to run on the soccer field and keep up with play. After six weeks on the StrongLifts program, I’ve noticed an improvement in my speed and endurance on the field. The app has made my workout regimen simple, and I’ve added a couple of additional exercises to increase my core strength and ab work. I went ahead and purchased the pro version of the app to support my efforts. It’s a small price to pay for the knowledge and motivation I get from StrongLifts 5×5.

I’ve been in the military for over 30 years and is always in good shape. I did a lot of cardio type exercises and of course lot’s of push-ups and sit-ups but never weights. It just never appealed to me and I may have even been a little intimidated in starting later in life as I really had no idea where or how to start and I’m not looking to make myself the next Rock or Arnold Scwarzenegger (back in his prime). I just want to tone and get stronger and this is definitely doing it. I feel great and still compliment with cardio and the app walks me through what I need to do and how to do it so I’m not self conscious at the gym. I’ve seen a few other apps, but I believe this is without a fount the best

Love the 5×5 StrongLifts app! I started with the free version which is totally serviceable but ultimately decided to go for the annual subscription to support the program but also get access to automatic weight plate calculations. While yes I could do the math in my head, I don’t actually really want to spend the time and mental energy doing that, and just want to transition between sets easily. There’s also helpful videos demonstrating the movement and form of different exercises in case you need to check. I love the simple but useful ability to track reps, sets, and rest and see historical graphs to give another sense of progress. The +5lb progressive overloading each workout is great to safely progress and get stronger. I don’t have to worry about lifting something potentially way over my safe handling capabilities. If you’re not familiar with the StrongLifts 5×5 program, I really encourage you to read more about it on their official website. It’s a great for beginners to get into lifting heavy and focusing on efficient and important compound lifts

Simple and easy to use app for a simple no nonsense lifting program. After using this app for over 1 year: I have been using this app in tandem with some cardio work on the off days and I don’t make massive gains progress, but I am happy with the results. When people ask me what routine I’m on, this is the app I recommend. It’s is simple in execution and yet you can customize your accessory work to meet your personal goals in addition to building strength. Oly lifts, bodybuilding focus, any exercise you want to add can be made to work in the custom assistant exercise settings. Even with my running/rowing cardio I have had some impressive gains in strength over the last year.

Several years ago I noticed a friend was really starting to put on some serious muscle. He had been an averaged size guy and his arms were starting to stretch out his sleeves. I asked him what he had been doing and he told me about StrongLifts 5×5. I started shortly thereafter and have been a huge fan ever since. If I fall off of working out (Covid when they closed the gyms for example), I always find myself coming back to StrongLifts to get back to being strong. I just bought the lifetime family plan as I am teaching powerlifting to my teenage children and want this to be a tool in their toolbox too. Can’t say enough good things about it. If you want to cut wasted time from your workouts, this is the app for you. You can build in your own programming, excellent automatic rest timer, automatic weight increase, workout history tracking, screen lock override when the app is open, and warmup and plate calculator. A simple interface with the features you need and not burdened with things you don’t.

The app makes strength training simple and easy to understand, and it only takes a few minutes to customize it to your workout preferences. I upgraded to the PRO version and added pull-ups and dips, and the app does all the math and record-keeping for me. I especially like the built-in timer that shows how much time has elapsed between sets and the graphs that illustrate my progress. I’m 43 years old and I just finished workout 8. I work weird hours at a full-time job and a part-time job, have a wife and 4 kids, and volunteer at church. I never had time to do an actual routine, and I always missed one day or another. These workouts take 45 minutes to an hour and 15, and because of the schedule, you feel like you’re crushing it every single time.

I’ve used Stronglifts since 2015, which should already tell you everything you need to know. What makes it stand out is that it gets out of the way and lets you focus on your routine. I’ve tried all the other apps, and this one is hands down the best. The suggested deload when you’ve skipped the gym for a few months tends to be a little too conservative (i.e., too much is deloaded), so I tend to disable that option and calculate it myself when needed. Support is excellent; when I reported a bug, it was fixed the same day. If you’re new to strength training, do yourself a favor and get this app.

I have gone through a slew of work out apps and none have ever caught my fancy. StrongLifts is the first to really impress me. I went with the free version for a month but as I began lifting more and wondered if I had the correct posture, I realized I needed to upgrade to the Pro version. That was well worth the money for the upgrade. Not only does it give you more in-depth videos for the lifts, better history and lift management, but it gives you a weight calculator! Ya, seems silly to mention such a small feature, but man, I use it with every workout! It’s brilliant! StrongLifts has kept me on track for my 5×5 workouts and when I am sick or away from the gym, it accurately drops my weight to get me back into the swing of things without losing faith because it’s too hard. After five months of using it, my arms have grown larger to the point that people recognize that I’m “buffed”. I now notice picking up items that use to be a strain are no longer something I even think about. In short, StrongLifts has been a major difference in my life. Lastly, support. Most of these apps here have lackluster support. Not StrongLifts. I had an issue with my AppleWatch display reverting to the watch face that drove me nuts. Apparently, it was an update from Apple that enabled that feature. Within an hour or so of requesting support, the answer sat in my Inbox. I was highly impressed. After reading gobs of info on the 5×5 workout, the guy who owns the gym I go to recommended StrongLifts 5×5 website. From there I was ready to try it. But it did seem a little tedious to keep up with and track all the weight increases and so on. I am 42, and was a runner only 5 years ago and in tremendous shape, 165 lbs. After a hereditary foot issue prompted me to finally give up running, I have found myself 5 years later about 50 lbs heavier and feeling awful. Reading about the physiology of why 5×5 works, I was stoked to make a change.
Ready to get stronger and lean up again, I bought the weight equipment needed for 5×5. It does require certain things, but simple things that are easy to get at a discount or resaler online. But you also need a simple printable calendar or something to record all your personal lift increases, and a visual aid to keep A & B workouts straight. After seeing nothing but overwhelming spreadsheets and un-customizable calendars, I thought, “I bet there’s an app.” BINGO! STRONGLIFTS 5×5!
This app simplifies everything by alternating between A & B workout days automatically, it allows you to increase or decrease the weight for each lift right off the bat so you can begin where YOU need to, it has a cool built-in timer so you know how long to rest between reps, and automatically adds the weight to your next workout so you don’t have to do it each time. It also tracks your body weight and your lift gains for you, and it’s stupid-easy to use. YES EVEN A MEATHEAD CAN FIGURE IT OUT. If you’re going to start SL 5X5, you gotta have this app.

This app is way better than using the Excel or Google docs sheet to track your workouts. It’s even better when combined with an Apple Watch! I had a minor issue when I started a workout in the Fitness app on the Watch prior to starting the workout on the StrongLifts app and emailed Mehdi and he replied within an hour or so with instructions on how to address the issue. Turns out you don’t need to start a workout on the Fitness app on the Watch, just use the StrongLifts app on your phone and enable the Watch & Health settings (enabled by default) and you’re good to go. The workout will be logged in the Fitness app as a Traditional Strength Training workout, which is perfect.

I really like the Stronglifts 5×5 program a lot, and this app makes it so easy to confidently move through the program. I warm up well, rest appropriately between sets, and continue to confidently make gains like I never would have using my “pull a workout outta my hat, and make an educated guess at what weight to do” system I’ve used historically. This is particularly true as I, in my mid 50’s now, strive to stave off looming sarcopenia, and revive my lapsed strength and fitness. Not only is the app very well developed, and continually improving, but I am astonished by the incredible responsiveness of its support team. “I used to be in great shape” is a common refrain among the old and out of shape, for a good reason. After a long break (serious injury for me) it’s hard to swallow our egos and start from scratch. Every time I’d try to restart, I’d push too hard, feel miserable for three days, and maybe work out again a week later. Can’t fault the app!!! If one is disciplined and patient you will see strength and gains using the app. With a good diet and practice the form on warm up sets, you can’t go wrong. 12 weeks into this program deloaded a couple of times after struggling on OHP at 45kg and after a weeks holiday. Must be honest with yourself do not cheat, reload when required and work you way back to the weight. And then power on pass your failed previous weights. So far I have added nearly 10kg body weight in 12 weeks, though I was slim guy to start with 71.6 kg to 81kg. Definitely get the premium version, worth the money and for the added features. 5 stars Awsome app!!!

I was in a bad car crash at 17 and have always struggled to maintain a lifting routine – “no pain no gain” mentality made me always push too hard and I never developed good form. I started the 5×5 program six months ago after years of quitting other programs because they were too complicated/long/boring. While the 5×5 Stronglifts is a simple enough program to follow, the app I find indispensable to not only track my progress but to also calculate deloading, find proper form on the fly, visually see the weights and keep time between reps. But what really impressed me recently was a reply I received to my question from Mehdi himself. This wasn’t just ANY reply. It was a well researched reply to my problems with links provided for me to research more. Absolute gem of an app which comes with passionate support. Very impressed.

This simple but effective training app is probably the best training app on the market. It’s amazing for beginners, great for intermediates, and an oldie, but goodie for advanced lifters. I’ve been using it for a couple of months, and I love the fact that I’m using the same strategies that elite lifters, coaches and teams use. The interface is user-friendly, and I’m able to track my progress in the simple, straightforward way. There are apps that are newer, and there are apps that are more elaborate, but this is the best bang for your buck out there. I look forward to using this app for years to come.

I’m a 46 year old man who has spent lots of time in the gym since I was a teen. I was an endurance athlete so I never wanted to carry that much extra weight into the season so I would bulk up over the winter for strength gains before I leaned out after ramping up the cardio. Last year I found this app and was able to gain so much strength while maintaining my overall fitness that I did not return to endurance training. It feels too good to be this strong. The emphasis on recovery is consistent with professional elite athletes that have their own physicians, coaches, and tech to provide the largest possible advantage. I would love to see a dietary tracker and nutrient recommendations for timing and quantity as a companion to this workout plan.

Start with the basic building program to set or reset the foundations for your body to develop Give it time and see the results and from there the sky is the limit with the app. May not seem much but with a few of the additional options available on start up and/or the increase in load it quickly becomes hard work – key to improve Substitute exercises if something hurts/you get injured, add additional ones if it meets your goal or write your own program and add a new exercise to the directory/guide provided. Also the daily email provides some real good information- take what you want leave what you don’t but read and digest as it’s all part of why the app does what it does.

I just completed my 20th workout with the following results: Almost 13k lbs volume 3 records: Squat 4×5 @ 225 OHP 5×92.5 Deadlift 5×235 I have to admit, when I saw the 4×5 @ 225 listed in my workout for today, I was a little apprehensive as to whether I’d be able to do it but I did! I always end up coming back! Great structure major muscle groups, awesome results. Go heavy for size or cut up with modified workouts at lesser weights! I highly recommend.

I love this app! All I have to do is get to the gym. It tells you how to warm up, what lifts to do on what days and shows you the form you need to lift safely. I look forward to getting up early to lift now-thank you!!!!

I didn’t know how useful the pro version of this app would be until I had used it for 6 weeks. I’ve modified the program to add accessory movements that target weak parts of my body, switched up the training frequency to match my schedule, watched the form videos when I was confused during a set, and did it all without struggling through the app. Oh, and I also watched the numbers on the weight graphs go up. Honestly, I don’t know what more they could add to improve the app beyond adding dead hangs and other mobility focused movements. This app has worked well for me the last 6 consistent weeks, so I’ll continue using it. You’ll only get value from this app if you use it consistently.

I started using Strong Lifts a couple of months ago. I love the ease in which it works. The progressive nature takes out the guess work but you also have the ability to adjust the weight as needed. They started me out on a great weight based on my level of experience and it has been perfect. No crazy soreness either. The video tutorials are great to have. The response to questions is quick and they have great follow up. You can sign up for a daily email where Medhi answers questions. A great app and program.

Used it since nine months. It was so effective in helping motivate and track my progress. My 20+ yr old son doing his own workout, noticed my significant increase in strength and after surpassing his PRs decided to switch to Strong Lifts. So I bought the lifetime family plan for my Son and I. We both love it. Saves us time during our workouts. The Apple Watch integration is seamless and makes it even more convenient.
