I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

My stats:
Gender - Female
Age - 35
Body Weight - 137 lbs
Body fat - 25 % I just purchased fat calipers so that number will need to be updated.
Height - 5 ft

Goals:
15% body fat.
One unassisted pull up. This has been a goal of mine for 2 years and I still have yet to accomplish it.

Biggest Obstacle - Consistency in my workouts and nutrition. I have struggled with this since I can remember. I go through cylces of good nutrition and workouts only to go on a binge and undo all progress made. The time between binges has greatly improved but it needs to stop all together.

I went to the gym last night. It was a good workout.

Squat - 5 x 5 - 45 lbs
Bench press - 5 x 5 - 65 lbs
Inverted Rows - 3 x f (failure occurred after 5-6 reps)
Push ups - 3 x f (failure occurred after 6 reps)

I used chalk for the first time and loved it. I thought I was going to miss my gloves but didn't. Got quite a few stares from the young guys doing the squats. But I think that was due to the pants I was wearing. I was almost showing a** crack every time I squatted. Now I know not to wear those pants again.

My plan to accomplish my goals is to get to the gym consistently. I have marked my day planner for the times I will be working out. Lucky for me the hubby is a weight lifter and understands how important it is for me to get to the gym. He'll take the kiddos for me in the evenings. After the first of the year I will be unemployed and will be able to go after the kids are dropped off at school. So I just have to get through the next few weeks.

Each week I will plan out my menu and stick to it. One advantage of being unemployed is being able to cook from scratch. I'm looking forward to it. I miss being able to cook.

Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

Hey good luck to you.

For future reference, when you're writing 3xF it's better to include whatever reps you completed for each set. For example, in your first set you complete 5 reps, second set you complete 3, and third set you complete 1 you would write 3x 5/3/1 or just 5/3/1.

Keep hitting the gym regularly and you'll be nailing that pullup in no time.

You had me at goddess! :p

Welcome to SL. Good luck with your goals (which seem very attainable with some hard work and determination).

I will do that next time I update my training log. I'd like to make to the gym tonight but it might not be until tomorrow.

There will be much rejoicing when I finally do a pull up. I can get myself up about 3/4 of the way so I'm almost there.

Thanks. It's nice to be here. I've lurked for awhile trying to get to know the place and so far I'm liking it. Not too big to get lost but enough people to get good feedback.

Just got home from the gym about an hour ago.

Squats - 5 x 5 - 55 lbs (no a** crack this time. I wore a different pair of pants)
Overhead Press - 5 x 5 - 45 lbs
Deadlifts - 1 x 5 - 65 lbs
Chin ups - I can't do these yet so I did negatives. I grabbed the bar, jumped up and then hung there for as long as I could. And that was harder than I expected. I tried putting a step under me for some assistance . . . yeah, didn't work. I just about fell over when it kept wobbling.

It was rather pathetic if I do say so myself but it's the best I could do. One of the trainers there was looking at me funny. I just about told him to fcuk off. But then this is the trainer who had this chick doing leg lifts with a resistance band. So I guess I should consider the source.

Anyway it was a pretty good workout. I'm happy with it.

I had hubby take my before pictures but I can't figure out how to post them. It's getting late so I will have to troubleshoot that sometime this weekend.

I couldn't do a single chin up or pull up before starting SL, so don't feel bad. After three or four weeks you'll be able to do them and wonder why they ever seemed that hard.

Such a fire starter pagengoddess...first wearing pants with a** crack showing and then telling the trainer to FO....lol To funny. Glad you are posting to keep a log and are trying to hit the gym on a regular basis. Good luck on your goal and keep us posted on your gains and push through those days where the last place you want to be is the gym and you will see the gains you want to see.

In my defense I didn't know those pants would do that when I squat and I tried everything I could after that to keep them up. It's funny now but at that time was a little embarrasing.

I knew once I started this program that I would get some funny looks. It's not the typical program at most commercial gyms as evidenced by the trainer who has the chick doing leg lifts with a resistance bad. And HE was giving ME looks. I guess it's time for some thicker skin.

I know I need to push through those days and I appreciate the encouragment. Right now I'm excited about the new program but soon enough I know I'll feel like skipping a day. It's then that I need to remind myself why I'm doing this.

Keep posting and we will keep trying to help you get through those tough days. Your log will help you with that by keeping track of your mood as well when you lift. I add my thoughts to mine to keep track of how many good days or bad days I am having and to listen to what my body is trying to tell me.

Don't bash the resistance bands to much because they are a perrty good way to rehab and for a quick work-out when your out and about, but I am with you on the fact that if that is your only work out it might be time for a change....but those PT have to make their money some how. Keep going against the norm, or really keep going old school because all these lifts have been around for a long while and just tucked away and over spot lighted by all the NEW and improved stuff that has come out over the years.

Sorry to take up so much of you log, Christian

I will. I know the hard days will come and that's when I really need to push myself.

It's the trainer I have a problem with not the resistance bands. It's not the first time he has said and done things that annoy me.

You're not taking up my log. I appreciate your comments. Thank you.

Went to the gym today.

Spuats - 5x5 60 lbs
Bench Press - 3x5 70 lbs & 2x5 65 lbs
Inverted rows - 6, 5, 5
Push ups - 6, 5, 3

Had some difficulty on the bench press. Looking back I see I started too high on the weight. Should have started with just the bar. I guess that's what I get for going into the gym pissed off and frustrated. It got the best of me. I'll slow it down next time and get my bench press on track.

Overall a very good workout. Unfortunately I had to listen to 2 obnoxious people workout next to me. I didn't know one person could do so many curls and make so much noise while doing it. I could hear them through my headphones and I had the volume up pretty loud.

Well be glad that you were able to start at 65lbs on the bench, but deloading probably would be a good way to reach past the stall...don't worry about it just push past it, the strength will come.

I am also seeing the pattern of people are quick to get on your nerves...lol...I see a home gym in your future.

I am glad I was able to start at that point. The time I have spent in the gym has paid off. But I need to focus on the long term not just what I'm feeling at that moment.

You're quick to pick up on that. I can't help myself sometimes. I'm a bit high strung.

I would love a home gym. Hubby and I are hoping to move in the next year or so and I will be looking into it very seriously. But for now the gym is only 4 miles from my house and the monthly rate is very reasonable.

Worked out yesterday.

Squats - 5x5, 65 lbs
OHP - 5x5, 50 lbs
DL - 1x5, 70 lbs
Chin ups- Did negatives again. I just kept doing them until I couldn't keep myself up anymore. Not sure how many that was. Somewhere around 7.

And I shoveled lots of snow yesterday too. Wow my back is sore.
