With this app you'll never again need paper and pen in the gym. What's more, the app will automatically tell you which workout to do, which exercises and with how much weight. It will even tell you when to deload, and how weight weight to use when you deload. It's not exactly like me coaching you, but we're getting closer to it.

It's all free, there's no need to subscribe, no upsell, no crosssell, no ads, no anything. Consider it my Christmas gift for you. Just get it here:

Got to run now, by Grandma unfortunately passed away this week and her funeral is in one hour. Talk to you later.

Merry Christmas,

Mehdi

P.S. Check out the feedback we've already received about the StrongLifts 5x5 app:

"Perfectly Elegant! The perfect app for this type of workout. No disrespect to others who want to be able to modify the exercises but that doesn't make sense. This is for the Stronglifts 5x5 exercise program only. And for that is is perfectly and elegantly designed. Bravo! And thanks!" - THOMAS MAZZONE

"Great, simple tracker for the StrongLifts program. Easy to use and the design is great!" - Igor Zlobinsky

"So easy to use!! Wow this makes the 5x5 program so much easier to follow! Been waiting for this forever." - Jasons

"I just downloaded it for my iPod and it ROCKS!" - Matthew Gerberding

P.P.S. Regarding Android: after talking with an android developer about this, I decided to not pursue android at this moment and stick with iphone/ipod. Here's why: the Android platform is fragmented - different phones, different screen sizes, etc... and this makes it more complicated to support as a result.

My advice is to get an iPod Touch. It doesn't have phone features, so this way you don't get people texting/phoning you when you're in the gym, and you don't get distracted during your training.

Seems to be a pretty big bug when using kgs. The app will not allow you to type in any weights less then 45kgs. For example, I typed 40kgs for my OHP but it auto fills to 45kgs. It does this for all exercises. I assume the reason is that in lbs, the minimum (empty bar) would be 45lbs. Needs to be fixed for kgs though! Brilliant app once this is fixed

  2. cam says:

sorry for you loss mehdi and thank you for your generosity of making the app for free. best wishes and happy holidays my friend and coach :)

  3. Leon says:

Have ben waiting for this! Looks good :)

  4. Gavin says:

Excellent app I’ve been waiting for this, it’ll be great once a few bugs are ironed out.

  5. Eric says:

Hi Mehdi, my condolences for your grandmother.

I installed the Stronglifts app on my iPhone. It seems to want to force me to enter Workout A today even though I did workout B. Is there a way to make it show Workout B the first time you use the app?

Thanks in advance and thank you for releasing this!

  6. tschong says:

    Ahoy there,

thx for the app, highly appreciated and looks nice and useful.

But there’s a big bug currently in it for anyone that uses kilogram:

It is not possible to put in a weight under 45; if you try to save, it is automatically set up to 45.

this number may make sense with lbs, but 45 kgs eg ~100 lbs is a bit hard for 5×5 beginners ;)

    Happy Holidays

  7. Dima says:

to anyone who has encountered the KG bug – I am one of the developers for this app and we noticed this bug after the release. We have already fixed it and it will be good in the next update. Bodyweight will also allow decimals(currently doesn’t).

  8. Dima says:

to add, the minimum and starting weight for KGs will be 20 KG.

Also to the person who asked about starting with Workout B: It is possible if you just create your first 2 workouts in a row and delete the first one. The first and only one then will be B.

  9. James says:

    Sorry for your loss Mehdi,
So far so good on the app. I use pounds so I haven’t found any bugs like some of the others. I should also say that I’ve had it about three hours and this is not a workout day for me.
Eric, I had the same thoughts as you about workouts a&b I did a yesterday and will do b tomorrow, my solution is to change the first session date to last time I did woorkout a enter the data and go from there. I also plan to enter all data since August 2 before I work out in the morning. Will see how it goes

  10. James says:

P.S. thanks for the app how ever I will also keep using pen and paper as a back up just in case.

  11. Anders says:

When the bug is fixed it will be a really good app. I have a feature request however: an data export option. It would also be nice to be able to upload the workouts to Runkeeper.com.

  12. Dan says:

    Nice job, simple to use.

Agree with the others; once the bug with the kgs is fixed we’ll be good to go.

    Dan

  13. Sean says:

    Hey Medhi,

I like the app, got a few suggestions.

Include a way to include an incomplete workout. Maybe not that important, as you can change the weights and things manually.

    Include warmups and their weights.

Also show the weight you would add on each side of the bar (total/2) – 45, just to make it a little simpler.

  14. Dan says:

Is the app compatible with ipod touch 1st gen. Can’t seem to get it to sync onto my ipod. :(

  15. Dima says:

The app requires iOS 4.1 to work(certain features aren’t supported on earlier operating systems). What version is on your ipod?

  16. David says:

Hey, the 1st gen iPod goes to iOS 3.1.3, and great application! It’s very easy to navigate and yeah, it will be super when the kg bug has been fixed, a few suggestions would be to graph your progress maybe? and email a spreadsheet to yourself of your progress would be good too :D happy Christmas!

  17. Anand says:

Great app. love the visual design and the simplicity. Gets right to the core of the strong-lifts 5×5 program.

Found the same problem as others, cant enter a weight below 45kg. Good to know that its being fixed.

i’d like to see one addition to it. Some kind of a graph which shows progress of the weights lifted, just like how it was in the earlier excel document

  18. Robert says:

    Hello,
really nice app, but i wonder in there is no opportunity to erase sets, like when you are (i am now) on 3×5 and later 1×5 for bench, squats etc.

Merry Christmas and best regards from germany!

  19. Jason says:

Any possibility that this app gets ported to a device that isn’t embarrassing to use? Android needs some love too!

  20. Jeff says:

I agree with Robert, it would be very useful to make it so you can have it as a 3×5 or 1×5!

  21. Chad says:

I really like the App it keeps with the theme of no fluff and no BS without being bland or boring.

I would also like to repeat what Sean suggested, if you included the warm-ups and the weight needed for each warm up set that would be tremendous. (I’m thinking after you put in the weight of your first workout set it will then do the math and show up in the 1st warm up set and so on)
It would also be convenient but not as necessary if you included which plates are needed on each side to equal the desired weight load.(Maybe have an icon you can tap on that brings you to a page that displays all the weights and the plates needed on each side, then you can click back and continue with workout because I don’t know how else you would fit it in the current format)

  22. Shaun says:

I just downloaded the app today and added my workouts since I started the program on November 23rd. I haven’t noticed any issues as of yet and things seem to be running smooth.

I have to echo what others have said. It would be nice if the program blends into the 3 x 5, 1 x 5 and MadCow workouts so we know when the best time is to switch over and keep moving along with the programs.

The warmup sets would also be nice, however I would imagine people are doing many different things for their warmups.

Thanks for the app and sorry for your loss.

  23. Nick says:

Really nice app. When you fix the kg issue, please do not forget to make it possible to add decimal number here also (since you normally increase the weights by 2,5 kg), not just for the bodyweight part. I also miss the possibillity to add bodyfat percent.

  24. Johnny says:

It looks like a very nice app. When you do the android version it would be great if you enable it on smaller screen devices. Devices such as the Xperia mini and htc wildfire are commom these days.

    My condolences, Mehdi.

  25. David says:

First, let me add my condolences on your loss.

Is there any ETA for the Android version?

  26. Andrew says:

Can’t wait till tomorrow when I can kick off this new programe ,love the idea off the app on the iPad been looking though some off my old training logs recently and finally after 26 yes of lifting and playing Rugby worked out the correlation between over training and injury ,love that this is gonna go the mental stuff for me all I gotta do is turn up put in the effort and leave. Tough to take the ego out off it but I can see how starting somewhat cautiously and progressing more steadily should pay off in long term

  27. Tom says:

It would be nice if one could enter any value into the weight fields. I prefer to enter the weight on each side of the bar – therefore I have lower values even when I am no longer a complete beginner.

  28. Aj says:

First of, sorry to hear that, Mehdi.

But anyway, I have an Ipad that my family shares so im putting on there at the moment, but since I have an android phone, im eagerly anticipating its release.

  29. Aj says:

I just read some comments, hopefully you can merge this with my other comment.

I also hope, like others have said, that the warm up weights are added so it tells you those as well, it would probably need some sort of algorithm from looking at the way you set the warm up weights to be.

  30. Rogue says:

I admit it would be awesome if after you put in the weight of your first workout set if it would then do the math and show u your weight for your warm up sets! Plus export spread sheet of ur workouts to track your progress! Also including 3×5 etc….

  31. Rogue says:

Btw… This app is awesome! Great design! Thanks a million!
